TRONCONES, MX

This won't be a typical summary. Just a small generalization and introduction to Troncones. In short, Troncones is a small beach town in southwestern Mexico. It is much larger however than its little brother to the north, La Saldadita. It's pretty developed; from a vacation destination perspective. There's nice restaurants, nice hotels on the beach, and all that. Lots of people on vacation. But it's a cute little town. It's located on a beautiful long beach, with stunning sunsets to boot. There's nice options for local food, and the local community is really friendly. There's surfing here and a lot of people are here doing it. In my opinion, Troncones was a relatively forgettable beach break that wasn't all that impressive. I am sure it has its days though. As is the case with beach breaks. A really nice place to make a pit stop for a day or something if you are making the drive down, or spending time in the Zihuat area in general. If you are on a budget though, I would not come here. From an accommodation perspective there aren't really any cheap options in the whole town.
GENERAL OVERVIEW
-
LOCATION - Troncones is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, in the state of Guerrero. There's a few ways to get here. If you are traveling by plane, just fly into Zihuatenejo and you are only about 30 minutes away. It's a really easy drive with a car. If you are coming down, or traveling by car, it's just past the town of Lazaro Cardenas. Continue down on the coastal route 200, and take the exit at the Pemex station after you pass La Saldadita, and that road will take you straight to Troncones. There are signs on the highway for the exit, to make things easy for you. It's a small place so once you are there, you are there.
-
ACCOMMODATION - There are hotels up and down the beach. Nothing that is remotely cheap existed while I was there though. There is a hostel, but it's over $50 per night. So, is it really a hostel? I stayed at a super cool little campground right on the beach called Camping Nomads Troncones. It was cheap, right on the water, had services that I could use, and is right in the center of town near all of the local food options. It's pictured at the top of the page. If you have the ability to camp this is a great option, if not, Troncones will not be cheap. If you are on a budget probably best to avoid.
-
EATS - There is food all over the place. Varying in price. Lots of western or international options due to the amount of vacation goers that come here. Only really one local place that I would recommend.
-
Taqueria Martinez - Little hole in the wall spot with a few tables. Lady serving up delicious tacos, gringas, and quesadillas for cheap. She was super sweet as well. I think I went back for a second dinner, too.
-
-
NIGHTLIFE - Not much here.
-
SIGHTS - Nothing to do here but surf and got to the beach.
-
SURFING - Troncones itself is really just a beach break out front. There are waves, and I am sure it has its moments, but for me it was generally unmemorable. There are some other waves in the area as well. Buy a local a beer, and figure it out for yourself.
