san pedro sula, HN

This is going to be really quick. Don't take me including this place as a page as a recommendation that you should go to San Pedro Sula for a visit or a vacation. You should not. San Pedro Sula is not a great place. It's one of the kinds of places in Central America that I would strongly recommend you ignore. There's nothing at all really good about it. It's extraordinarily hot, and it can be very dangerous. Up until 2019, San Pedro Sula was the murder capital of the entire world. If that's not enough to keep you away, I don't know what it would take. Actually maybe some people reading would go there just for this simple fact. To prove the media wrong. Maybe they have a point.   But anyways, I digress. San Pedro Sula, or Sula, is not somewhere you should spend much time, but, it is likely somewhere that you will have to go and should know about. It's the largest city in the area. If you are traveling to The Bay Islands then San Pedro Sula is almost surely going to be on your travel itinerary at some point. If you are traveling by air, this large city in the far northeast of the country has a big international airport. It's going to be your stopping off point before you head out to the islands. If you are traveling by bus, you are going to come through San Pedro Sula. At a minimum make a stop, but likely have to change buses or shuttle here before making your way off to La Ceiba.   So it's just an important place to know about. You will be traveling through it. The airport (SAP) and the bus terminal are the most important landmarks to be familiar with. The bus terminal is actually shockingly nice.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • LOCATION - San Pedro Sula is located in far Northeastern Honduras. It's about as close to the border or Guatemala as you can get. It's located right at the intersection of a number of the main highways in the country. It's a big city as well. The population of nearly one million people makes it one of the largest in the country. The most important thing about this place though is if you are making it over to the Bay Islands (Utila or Roatan) then you will more than likely need to make your way through this airport. If you are flying to Roatan there are more direct flights, but if you are flying to Utila and want to fly for cheaper you will probably have to come through here. And if you are traveling by bus you will certainly have to pass through.

    • By Air - The airport is under the code SAP. Most of the time the airport will just be a layover. So you won't need to know much about the actual place. The airport is actually pretty nice.

    • By Land - You will likely be taking a shuttle through the country to get you to La Ceiba. If you do so the bus will go through San Pedro Sula and will at a minimum make a stop here. It's important to note that this place exists. It will give you better bearings about the journey you have ahead of you. The bus terminal is located here

  • ACCOMMODATION - Try not to spend a night here.

  • EATS - No clue.

  • NIGHTLIFE - Not sure you want to find out.

  • SIGHTS - There's a church I guess.

  • SURFING - Nothing.
