LA SALADITA, MX

This won't be a typical summary. Just a small generalization and introduction to what La Saladita is. In short, La Saladita is a small little town that is a haven for longboarders. As you can see in the photo it's a peeling left-hander that seems to go on forever. But the wave never gets big, powerful, or performance-like. But if you are a longboarder, the place is absolutely amazing. La Saladita is super sleepy. It's just a collection of little houses and hotels along a beach, with the wave out front.   I knew a few longboarders who spent months here just surfing the perfect wave out front. The houses up and down the beach were a bit of a shock to me when I pulled up though. They were pretty nice, and there were a lot of older gringos seemingly on vacation in them.   But the place is beautiful as I am sure you can tell. It's mellow, quiet, and there's not a whole lot to do. Here you're going to find surfing, yoga, and mellow. It's really close to Zihuatenejo, which has an international airport. That's one thing that's going to attract the vacationers. But it is still a relatively undiscovered tiny little surfer's paradise. The wave can get prettyyy crowded though. A great place for longboarding, also means a great place for learning and improving. There's a large crowd learning and improving their surfing here as well.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • LOCATION - La Saladita is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico in the state of Guerrero. There's a few ways to get here. If you are traveling by plane, just fly into Zihuatenejo and you are only about 40 minutes away. It's a really easy drive with a car. If you are coming down, or traveling by car, it's just past the town of Lazaro Cardenas. Continue down on the coastal route 200 and take the exit at Los Llanos de Temalhuacan; the only road to the coast will take you directly to Saldadita. It's a tiny little place, so once you are there, you are there. Can't take more than 30 minutes to walk from end to end and back again.

  • ACCOMMODATION - There's loads of little hotels and small resorts up and down the beach. A few little spots to camp and pull your car in if you want to do that, which will certainly be the cheapest option. There are also a few little surf hotels that you can find that won't be all that expensive. But keep in mind there are a lot of people who come here on vacation so prices won't be super low.

  • EATS - Little beachfront restaurants serving seafood and such.

  • NIGHTLIFE - none really.

  • SIGHTS - nothing to do here but surf and yoga.

  • SURFING - This is really the only reason why anyone comes here in the first place I think. If you aren't here for surfing, you are lost in my opinion, or very clearly missing out. But the wave out front really is so sooo good if you are longboarding. Like I mentioned above, the waves never get big, and it's not a great wave for shortboarding. It has very little power, and it's hard to impossible to even get into a wave when it's small. But on a long board it's a beautiful wave. Small, but beautiful. There are some other waves in the area as well. Buy a local a beer, and figure it out for yourself.
